This month, was very busy. I’d forgotten how much work blogging regularly is. And there were the changes I made to the blog, (you can read more about those in my last post) as well as school and speech and debate tournaments, so I only read 5 ½ books. It isn’t a lot for me, but it’s enough to keep me on track for my reading goal of 75 books this year.
Just reading my reviews, you probably don't know me very well. In this post, I want to change that and fill you in on what's new around here. Don’t worry, it's all good. At least, I think it will be. I can't be sure…
As many of you know, this blog was called Christian Readers Review. That's actually the name I gave my blog when I originally started it 2 years ago. I had it for about a year, before switching to a food blog. The food blog was around for even a shorter amount of time. I want this blog to be different. So that I don’t get bored with it so quickly, I have decided to make some changes. That’s not the only reason of course. I also think it will be fun and that you’ll like it too. Chosen as Eostre's handmaid, Hild will serve the goddess for a year before being wed. Her future is predictable--until King Edwin claims her as kin and she learns that her father was murdered. Her first love is given a command in Edwin's forces and vanishes from her life, wed to her sister. The court is baptized, ending the old religion and Hild's role. Life looks bleak. She can't stop wondering who killed her father. She is intrigued by the Iona priests making pilgrimages to spread Christ's love. When home and family are lost in Oswy's sack of Edinburgh, she finds herself in enemy hands, but meets the charismatic Aidan. Inspired and guided by him, she builds communities to live and teach Christ's love. She never ceases battling against old superstitions resurrected by storm, plague, and solar eclipse, but at last she receives a bishop's blessing - from a man she trained herself. Matt Cruse is a cabin boy on the Aurora, a huge airship that sails hundreds of feet above the ocean, ferrying wealthy passengers from city to city. It is the life Matt's always wanted; convinced he's lighter than air, he imagines himself as buoyant as the hydrium gas that powers his ship. One night he meets a dying balloonist who speaks of beautiful creatures drifting through the skies. It is only after Matt meets the balloonist's granddaughter that he realizes that the man's ravings may, in fact, have been true, and that the creatures are completely real and utterly mysterious. In a swashbuckling adventure reminiscent of Jules Verne and Robert Louis Stevenson, Kenneth Oppel, author of the best-selling Silverwing trilogy, creates an imagined world in which the air is populated by transcontinental voyagers, pirates, and beings never before dreamed of by the humans who sail the skies. Neva Shilling has a heavy load of responsibility while her husband travels to neighboring communities and sells items from his wagon. When a wagon pulls up after supper, Neva and her children rush out -- and into the presence of the deputy driving a wagon carrying three young children. The deputy shocks her with the news that Warren and his wife have died, insisting it was their last request that the three children go live with "Aunt Neva." Neva's heart is shattered as she realizes that Warren's month-long travels were excuses for visits with his secret family. She wants nothing more than to forget Warren, but can she abandon these innocent children to an orphanage? Will she ever be able to see them as more than evidence of her husband's betrayal and love them the way God does? One group focused on destroying all religion. One group struggling to preserve the church. One woman searching for the truth. For two months, small-town lawyer Bethany Barclay had been mourning the hit-and-run death of her enigmatic best friend, Annabelle Seaver. Then the son of her wealthiest client is found murdered in her kitchen. When Bethany herself becomes the leading suspect, she must flee both the authorities and a mysterious killer. But there is more at stake than she knows. Bethany is caught in the web of a shadowy organization determined to destroy Christianity. The final outcome rests on her ability to piece together the last three months of her best friend’s life. |
