Neva Shilling has a heavy load of responsibility while her husband travels to neighboring communities and sells items from his wagon. When a wagon pulls up after supper, Neva and her children rush out -- and into the presence of the deputy driving a wagon carrying three young children. The deputy shocks her with the news that Warren and his wife have died, insisting it was their last request that the three children go live with "Aunt Neva." Neva's heart is shattered as she realizes that Warren's month-long travels were excuses for visits with his secret family. She wants nothing more than to forget Warren, but can she abandon these innocent children to an orphanage? Will she ever be able to see them as more than evidence of her husband's betrayal and love them the way God does? I was actually kind of surprised how much I liked this book. Okay, that sounds a bit harsh. But it starts about kind of boring. The hook wasn't very strong, and I didn't really want to keep reading. I'm glad I did, though. The story is kind of cheesy, (like a lot of Christian fiction) especially the dialogue, but it's still good. It's not the kind of book that I normally read, but I stayed up late reading it. And that's a good sign, even if it isn't good for my health. The plot was interesting and unpredictable. And I liked the characters. They were well written and each had their personality. That's something that is missing in a number of books. I also like how the story didn't shy away from difficult topics, but it did it in a way that was appropriate and glorified God, unlike a lot of modern fiction. Kim Vogel Sawyer has crafted a beautiful story of hope, love, and forgiveness. I give it 4 out of 5 stars, and recommend it for women that enjoy slightly cheesy, slightly romantic stories with good messages. And men too, if they like that kind of thing. Content Warning - CleanThis book is very clean. It does, however, deal with some issues that may be a bit mature for very young audiences. I received this book from the publisher in return for my honest review.
